The NBA's 10 Best Duos Entering 2026–27
Championship chemistry still matters—but a transformed league has created new partnerships with the talent to change the title race.
Toronto Raptors
Kawhi Leonard & Scottie Barnes
When healthy, Leonard and Barnes give Toronto two versatile forwards capable of controlling games at both ends. Barnes can initiate the offense, attack in transition and defend multiple positions, while Leonard remains an elite isolation scorer and disruptive defender. Their size should make Toronto exceptionally difficult to match up with. The obvious concern is availability: Leonard must stay on the court long enough for this partnership to reach its considerable ceiling.
Los Angeles Lakers
Luka Dončić & Austin Reaves
Dončić and Reaves form one of the league’s most skilled offensive backcourts. Luka creates advantages against virtually every defensive coverage, while Reaves can score, facilitate and run the offense when Dončić plays away from the ball. Their chemistry and production are already established, but Los Angeles must compensate for their defensive limitations. If the Lakers can surround them with enough length and resistance, this pairing could outperform its No. 9 ranking.
Boston Celtics
Jayson Tatum & Paul George
Boston is betting that George can help replace the two-way production lost when Jaylen Brown departed. At their best, Tatum and George provide elite positional size, perimeter shooting and defensive versatility, with either player capable of handling the toughest wing assignment. The questions are health, age and how quickly their roles become defined. If both remain available and George embraces a supporting role, this could become one of the league’s most complete wing combinations.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Anthony Edwards & LaMelo Ball
Edwards has never played alongside a passer with Ball’s creativity and willingness to push the tempo. LaMelo should generate easier scoring opportunities for Edwards, allowing him to attack defenses before they can load multiple defenders in his direction. In return, Edwards gives Ball an explosive scoring partner capable of finishing difficult possessions. Their offensive ceiling is enormous, but defensive consistency, ball distribution and Ball’s performance under playoff pressure remain legitimate questions.
Philadelphia 76ers
Jaylen Brown & Tyrese Maxey
Brown and Maxey bring speed, physicality and high-level scoring to a Philadelphia roster overflowing with recognizable talent. Maxey can stretch defenses with his shooting and acceleration, while Brown supplies downhill pressure, size and perimeter defense. Both are capable of carrying an offense without needing every possession designed for them. The challenge will be establishing their roles alongside LeBron James and Joel Embiid, but their youth and availability could make them Philadelphia’s most dependable partnership.
Oklahoma City Thunder
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander & Jalen Williams
Gilgeous-Alexander is the centerpiece, but Williams’ versatility is what turns Oklahoma City’s backcourt and wing combination into something special. Williams can create offense, defend across several positions and handle possessions when SGA rests or draws extra attention. Injuries prevented the duo from reaching its usual level last season, creating some uncertainty entering 2026–27. If Williams returns to his previous All-NBA form, this ranking may ultimately look too low.
San Antonio Spurs
Victor Wembanyama & Stephon Castle
Wembanyama already changes every possession with his rim protection, shooting and unmatched size. Castle complements him with physical perimeter defense, playmaking and an ability to attack the basket without demanding constant control of the offense. San Antonio also has Dylan Harper and De’Aaron Fox, but Castle’s two-way style makes him the most natural partner for Wembanyama. With both players still developing, this could eventually become the league’s defining partnership.
Miami Heat
Giannis Antetokounmpo & Bam Adebayo
Scoring in the paint against Miami could become a miserable assignment. Adebayo can defend centers or switch onto guards, allowing Antetokounmpo to roam, protect the rim and ignite transition opportunities. Both players can also handle the ball and create for teammates in ways that most frontcourt combinations cannot. The offensive fit is less certain because neither is a high-volume perimeter shooter, but their overwhelming athleticism and defensive potential make them worthy of a top-three ranking.
Denver Nuggets
Nikola Jokić & Jamal Murray
Few partnerships in basketball history have developed a better understanding of how to manipulate a defense. Jokić can score or create from anywhere on the floor, while Murray remains comfortable operating as both a lead guard and off-ball scorer. Their two-man game has survived virtually every coverage opponents have tried against it, and both have already delivered at a championship level. Denver’s health and supporting cast raise questions, but the partnership itself remains among the NBA’s safest investments.
New York Knicks
Jalen Brunson & Karl-Anthony Towns
Brunson and Towns earned the top spot by proving their partnership at the highest possible level. Brunson supplies late-game creation, leadership and difficult shot-making, while Towns stretches opposing centers, punishes smaller defenders and controls the glass. Their pick-and-roll forces defenses to choose between giving Brunson space and creating a mismatch for Towns. After leading New York to a championship, they enter the season as the standard every other duo is trying to surpass.
